Community Liaison

This position was established within St. Hilda's Services in 1994.

The responsibility of the community liaison officer is to ensure that the people who use our service are actively participating in their community, with the main focus being on community participation, involvement and the development of community networks e.g. summer camps, integration mainstream leisure activities.

Community Support Programme (Outreach)

The community support service commenced in July 2006 as a residential supports pilot project.

This pilot project was to provide additional support to people with intellectual disabilities living at home and in need of a residential placement.


Aims and Objectives:

  • To provide additional support to adults and children with intellectual disabilities.
  • To enhance quality of life for the individuals and their families.
  • Involvement in new experiences and new activities for the individual.

Overview of Service Activities:

The service is tailored to the individuals needs and the focus is on participation is in mainstream activities in the individuals own community.

These activities include:
  • Listening to music.
  • Going to soccer matches.
  • Hairdressers.
  • Walking dogs at the pound.
  • Drama classes.
The supports are provided in the evenings and at weekends outside of existing day service hours. Although the pilot of this service ended in August 2007, St. Hilda's have continued to provide the service.
