The John Gately Memorial Shield Soccer Tournament 2018

On Thursday 13th September 2018 the 10th anniversary of the John Gately Memorial Shield Soccer Tournament was held at AIT’s John Count McCormack Hall.

The first match kicked off at 6.30 pm.  We had a fantastic group of players in teams of Ireland A, Ireland B, Liverpool A, Liverpool B, Bluebirds and Robbins.  In total we had over 40 players from across St. Hilda’s Services and School. Each player gave a very professional and skilled game which made for very entertaining viewing for families, staff and supporters.  We had great feedback as to teamwork and as to how the players were so proud and independent in reading and playing the game.

I would like to thank each player who were involved in the training and preparation at the matches played on the night.  Without you this very special event in St. Hilda’s Services calendar would not happen.

This year the sun shone so bright for our Wednesday Training sessions we sometimes had to call off training, but in the end it was truly a great success.

My thanks to  Mrs. Anne Gately and family, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin and all Staff at AIT; College Support and Services, Gordon Brett, and the Students Union who as always give us great support.  Order of Malta, Sandy Hughes, Vincent O’Sullivan for DVD’s and all who helped make the evening another great success.

It was my pleasure to see such achievements.  Over the last 10 this has been a wonderful inclusive development through the John Gately Memorial Shield Soccer Tournament. The vision is that we can get local soccer teams involved going forward.

DVD’s are on sale for €10.

“Together we can achieve more”

Thank you,

Rosemary Joyce
